Overview:
Under general supervision of a nurse manager accordance with agency policy, provides professional nursing care services with emphasis on service to patients requiring care related to public health programs; performs professional nursing in accordance with prescribed rules, regulations, professional practices, and special orders from physicians; may supervise licensed practical nurses and/or home health aides, and performs related work as assigned by nurse manager.

Provides skilled nursing care and prescribed medical treatment to patients and demonstrates care to patients, families, practical nurses, and aides.

Identifies, observes, reports and records symptoms and conditions of patients.

Assists as a team member in the development of nursing care plans.

Gives medically ordered immunizations, tuberculin tests, treatment and medication.

Assists with medical examination, takes histories, and performs screening and recording activities at clinic and schools.

Helps explain agency services and policies to persons receiving service and to other persons with whom she works.

Gives general information to the public about the local public health agency and its services.

Attends staff meetings and participates in continuing educational programs.

Knowledge and Skills Qualification :
 |
Considerable knowledge of professional nursing theory and practice, with ability to apply nursing techniques. Knowledge of medicines and narcotics.

Ability to assess nursing needs and implement nursing care plans.
|
 |
Ability to administer skillfully medically ordered medications and treatment.
|
 |
Ability to apply nursing techniques.
|
 |
Ability to follow oral and written directions.
|

Ability to keep records and charts and to make reports.

Participates in routine patient care work, involving making beds, changing linens, lifting and moving patients, giving baths and rubs and feeding patients.

Type of Work:
Under the direction of nurses, performs personal health care services in cases not requiring the judgment of nurses; may perform home management or housekeeping services under the monitoring of a nurse or a Home Health Aide Coordinator; and performs related work as assigned.
Tasks Include:

Performs bathing, toileting, feeding, and other personal care services for patients.

Assists patients with prescribed exercises and activities.
|

Assists patients with ambulation and with the use of special equipment.
|

Assists patients with meal planning and preparation.
|
 |
Assists patients with basic housekeeping tasks.
|

May assist in providing adult/child in homes in which the parents are physically or mentally disabled

Performs clean dressing changes under the supervision of a nurse.

Minimum Qualifications Of Education And Experience:
Completion of Minnesota Department of Health approved vocational training for home health aide.
